Allahabad, the city of Sangam, has been a centre of learning and excellence since ancient times. Education has been the usp of Allahabad. The University of Allahabad established in 1887, rose to the status of Oxford of the East that has been the alma mater of several civil servants, legal experts, academicians, entrepreneurs, business tycoons and even political leaders who have reached the pinnacle of power. From July, 2005, the central government has declared the University of Allahabad to be an institution of national importance. The University of Allahabad Act 2005 now makes it a central university. 

Motilal Nehru Institute of Research & business administration (MONIRBA), the flagship management Institute of University of Allahabad, has also been contributing to the glorious record of University since its inception. 

The idea of present Institute was worked out in 1958 but it took 7 years to attain a physical and operational status. It was in the year 1965 that it entered into the take-off stage. The late Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri laid the foundation stone of the building on April 18, 1965. The Institute paid homage to the Nehru-Gandhi family by adopting the name of late Shri Motilal Nehru. It was a red-letter day in the history of Indian Universities when MONIRBA commenced the post-graduate programme in Business Administration in 1965. More than 47 glorious years have been spent in imparting education and research. All through these years MONIRBA has been striving to achieve excellence in the field of management education.
